Here’s what you will learn:
Course 1: Introduction, Terminology and Statistics
In this course you will define traumatic brain injury and describe the different types of TBI. Additionally, you will learn about the prevalence of TBI and how it impacts different populations in the United States and, more specifically, in California. Leading causes of TBI will also be discussed in detail.
Course 2: Risk Factors, Signs, and Symptoms
In this course you will learn how to identify TBI risk factors and recognize the health disparities associated with them. We will review the different types of TBI severity, and the tools used to measure them. Additionally, recognition of mild, moderate and severe TBIs will be discussed.
Course 3: Consequences
In this course you will learn how TBI affects a consumer’s everyday function and its effects on physical, emotional, and communication capabilities. We will also review the caregiver role in the observation, monitoring, and documentation of TBI consequences.
Course 4: Management and Prevention
In this course you will learn about TBI recovery, including management of TBI consequences and support that is needed. We will discuss the impact on caregivers and families who care for individuals suffering from TBI. Additionally, ways to reduce the chances of sustaining a TBI and how to prevent common TBI consequences will be reviewed.
Course 5: Emergencies and Response
In this course you will learn about the most common complications that can occur with TBI and review ways to manage and prevent its complications. We will also discuss and determine the appropriate response for caregivers when a consumer experiences an emergency complication of TBI.
Course 6: Case scenarios and skills practice
In this course, we put everything you learned into practice through case scenarios. You will share core concepts of TBI, practice implementing the information learned, and reflect on how you would incorporate teachings into the care you provide to consumer.
