Here’s what you will learn:
Course 1: Introduction and Statistics
In this course, we will discuss the differences between heart attack and heart failure. Additionally, you will learn about the prevalence of heart attack and heart failure, as well as how it impacts different populations in the United States and, more specifically, in California. Leading causes of heart attack and heart failure will also be discussed in detail.
Course 2: Terminology, Signs/Symptoms, and Risks
In the course you will learn key heart disease terms and definitions and how to identify the most common signs and symptoms associated with heart attack and heart failure. Modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors associated with heart attack and heart failure will also be discussed.
Course 3: Complications and Management
This course provides information for recognizing changes in a consumer’s physical activity level, diet, and lifestyle that can help manage their conditions of heart failure or the recovery from a heart attack. We will also review the correlation of consumer’s physical activity level, diet, and lifestyle to modifiable risk factors of heart disease.
Course 4: Prevention
In this course you will learn preventative tools to help reduce your consumer’s risk of heart disease through lifestyle modifications.
Course 5: Emergencies and Response
This course provides the correct order of steps to respond to a consumer complaining of chest pain to include calling emergency services, observing the consumer for signs and symptoms of heart attack, how to document your observations, and how to relay your observations to responding medical personnel.
Course 6: Case scenarios and skills practice
In this course, we put everything you learned into practice through case scenarios. You will share core components of heart attack and heart failure, practice implementing the information learned, and reflect on how you would incorporate teachings into the care and support you provide to consumers.
