Starting January 2024, IHSS providers in San Bernardino County can take free caregiver training on basic IHSS skills, Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and emergency preparedness.
No-Cost Training
Courses offered in English and Spanish.
Live on Zoom, 2.5 hours, once a week.
Upon completion of training, participants receive compensation of $747.50 – $1495.
- Requirements to join:
- You must be a current IHSS caregiver
- You may only enroll in one of the classes in San Bernardino County
- Reside in San Bernardino County
Three programs available:
IHSS Caregiving Essentials
Learn fundamental caregiving skills essential to becoming a recognized care team member. Training includes personal care, infection control, nutrition and body mechanics, medication adherence, and home safety.
- 12 weeks, 30 hours
- Potential compensation up to $1,495

Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD)
Learn caregiving skills specialized for consumers with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, including strategies for managing symptoms and common behaviors like sundowning, hallucinations, and wandering.
- 6 weeks, 15 hours
- Potential compensation up to $747.50
Caregiver Resiliency Teams (CRT)
Learn caregiving skills specialized for assisting consumers with access and functional needs in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from climate-related and other emergencies.
- 6 weeks, 15 hours
- Potential compensation up to $747.50

CCA will conduct impact evaluations of these trainings in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and researchers affiliated with J-PAL North America at MIT.
