In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) workers in San Bernardino County can access FREE caregiver training courses through the IHSS San Bernardino (IHSS SB) Program. This program offers three different caregiving courses, and IHSS providers in San Bernardino may enroll in just one of the three courses available. You can choose to take either “Caregiving Essentials,” “Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD),” or “Emergency and Disaster Readiness (EDR).”

This program is made possible through a partnership between the Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA), the Public Authority of San Bernardino County, and SEIU Local 2015. The aim is to develop a workforce of caregivers who are skilled, confident, and valued for providing high-quality home care to their consumers.
Format: Instructor-led via Zoom
Program Duration: June 2024-December 2026
Course Dates: May 2026-August 2026
Languages: English and Spanish
Potential Compensation: Eligible students may receive payment upon course completion.
Course 1, ENROLL HERE: IHSS Caregiving Essentials
Students enrolling in the “IHSS Caregiving Essentials” course for 2026 will be required to participate in a randomized controlled trial. As part of the trial, students will be placed into either the training course or a control group through a lottery process.
Format: Instructor-led via Zoom
Course Duration: 12 weeks, once per week for 2.5 hours
Stipend: We may pay you $1,495 after course completion, or $75 if you’re selected for the control group.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Active IHSS Provider
- The care recipient lives in San Bernardino County and is enrolled in the IHSS program

Course 2, ENROLL HERE: Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD)
Format: Instructor-led via Zoom
Course Duration: 6 weeks, once per week for 2.5 hours
Stipend: We may pay you $747.50 after course completion.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Active IHSS Provider
- The care recipient lives in San Bernardino County and is enrolled in the IHSS program
- The care recipient is at least 50 years old and exhibits symptoms of memory loss or cognitive decline.

Course 3, ENROLL HERE: Emergency and Disaster Readiness (EDR)
Format: Instructor-led via Zoom
Course Duration: 6 weeks, once per week for 2.5 hours
Stipend: We may pay you $747.50 after course completion.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Active IHSS Provider
- The care recipient lives in San Bernardino County and is enrolled in the IHSS program
