Flood Preparedness for Caregivers and Consumers

In California, we may experience occasional flood warnings or tsunamis and landslides that occur as a result of earthquakes or severe storms and extreme weather changes, and it is important to know what to do.

We want our caregiver community to know there are easy actions you can take to be prepared when a flood or similar emergency strikes. Here we provide you with some of the emergency preparedness tips that we teach caregivers in the Emergency and Disaster Readiness (EDR) course at the Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA).

Tips: Prepare for Weather Emergencies in Advance

  • Heat, power, or communication services may not be available, so keep all batteries charged.
  • Make a plan for keeping essential medications cold.
  • Stay informed by using official county TV, radio & emergency services; sign up for alerts.
  • Be ready to evacuate your consumer and any pets to higher ground if ordered to do so.

The infographic below offers steps to follow before, during, and after a flood.
CCA offers this information to help you stay calm and focused to keep you and your care recipient safe.
