Workshops for Skilled Nursing Facility Staff

The Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA) offers workshops for Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) staff aimed at helping them manage common challenges they encounter daily. These workshops are offered at no-cost to participants to promote learning, collaboration, and problem-solving.

What You Will Learn in a Workshop

Workshop training gathers SNF workers into small groups to discuss common issues they face in their profession. Topics include learning about State of California regulations and survey requirements for SNFs, how to build cohesive care teams, and how to provide good customer service. And staff members also learn to build confidence and maintain professionalism in the workplace.

Workshops and other SNF training programs are made possible by funding through the Education Fund. The Ed Fund is managed by CCA in partnership with SEIU 2015 and participating SNF employers in California.

State Survey Preparation Workshops

Our State Survey Preparation Workshop Series is launching in Fall 2026. This professional development series is designed for SNF workers to be prepared and confident for your facility’s next state survey.

What is a California State Survey? State surveyors make unscheduled visits to SNFs throughout the year to observe daily operations, audit care plans, and review medical records and facility policies.

During their visits, surveyors may observe how staff members provide care and interact with nursing home residents. They may interview nurses and other staff to help identify issues that could be improved around safety, cleanliness, infection control, and related areas.

A positive survey outcome is always the goal, especially because good outcomes help facilities maintain their Medicare rating. And our State Survey Preparation Workshops help SNF staff understand what surveyors evaluate, how to handle their questions with confidence, how to correct any potential “deficiencies,” and why surveys are essential to keeping SNFs running smoothly.
