A “Champions of Coverage” effort has been initiated in California and other states because big changes are coming to Medicaid policies at the national level. These changes impact policies at the state level.
In California, January 1, 2027 marks the start of changes for thousands of Medi-Cal members in the California communities served by the Center for Caregiver Advancement (CCA). Medi-Cal members will face new work requirements and twice-yearly eligibility reviews to maintain their coverage.
Champions of Coverage: Policy, Renewal & the Road Ahead

CCA wants to support caregivers and consumers who rely on Medi-Cal coverage. CCA is proudly partnering on the “Champions of Coverage: Medicaid Policy, Renewal, and the Road Ahead” initiative with the Helen Miller SEIU Member Education and Training Center (SEIU METC).
This is a multi-state initiative that includes California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, and Texas.
Webinar Series: As part of this effort with SEIU METC, CCA developed the information for a series of “Champions of Coverage Webinars.”
These 90-minute virtual sessions are designed to equip low-income healthcare workers with critical knowledge and tools to navigate Medicaid/Medi-Cal policy changes. This knowledge can help them protect their own coverage. And they can use the information to assist their consumers, families, and communities.
The “Champions of Coverage” webinar series runs from November 2026 through February 2027.
Register for the first webinar on November 7, 2026.
Who can attend? In California, IHSS providers and other workers who are members of SEIU Local 2015 can register to attend.

And, please share these opportunities to help others learn more about maintaining Medi-Cal eligibility!
